Thank you to all the people living outside Aust. for caring about the cruelest kill in the world (Australia's kangaroo shares the horrific title with Harp Seals). A huge % of Aussies think what happens to our Roos is OK, but will protest/not buy Japanese because of whale slaughtering. They have such double standards. We also have the medal for causing the extinction of more animals in 223 years than any other country has done in thousands of years.
The few carers in Aust that care for wildlife, do not get any financial help from anywhere. That is one of the reasons there are so few care for the orphaned wildlife. Carers give up their time, money & their social life. For 2.5 mths in 2010 I averaged less than 30 mins sleep per day. I personal spend approx 80% of my total income on wildlife.

And finally this round:-
- The industry has lost over $100m in export income, 60 per cent of its processing capacity has been sidelined, and it has shed 1500 jobs, largely in the bush. In a final blow, AQIS now wants to increase fees to kangaroo meat processors and harvesters by 40pc.

We think the latest news show the state of the industry which indeed is on it's knees and no where near as profitable as our friend KH keeps telling everyone.

-The closure of the Russian market some 24 plus months ago has placed enormous pressure on the kangaroo business throughout Australia. There have been a number of plant closures.

- Kangaroos are reportedly being tortured on a weekly basis due to increasing population growth in the Peel region, with one animal being found torn in two after being tied to two separate cars.

- Kangaroo Industry Association of Australia executive John Kelly last week issued a plea to the government to offer some support to the industry, prompted by the closure of Blackall's kangaroo processing works in central western Queensland.

It would appear that our friend Kangaroo Harvester is at it again. Has no one told him that according to the industry over 50% of all processing plants for kangaroo have now closed and the industry badly needs funds to keep going.

Just in case you missed some of these articles in the press recently, we thought we would share them with you:-

- But it is thousands of professional kangaroo shooters and meat processors across the nation who are watching an industry with a long history, and much promise, slip away.

- A REAL shooter has commented recently:-(name removed)that he had been making a living out of these skills (shooting kangaroos) but says it's becoming increasingly difficult and after almost two years of stalled trade negotiations, he's all but given up hope. Now the last remaining kangaroo meat processing centre in the region is shutting its doors.

We will be posting more news very soon and have to say that there is a lot of misleading information being put out by the KIAA to try and rattle us. Remember that they are desperate to keep going and what with all the floods and so on kangaroo shootings are down by a massive amount.
Ray Border of Macro Meats, the biggest of plants for processing kangaroo based in Adelaide said that they could only distribute 30 per cent of normal capacity and that he has lost million of dollars over the last 14 months.
That in itself is a great result.

I want to once again thank everyone not just in Europe and Australia who are supporting our campaign but everyone around the world. Your support is fantastic.

When we first started this campaign a year ago we only had a handfull of supporters who cared so much for what Australia was doing to these animals and the way they bludgen to death their babies.

We now have almost 16,000 supporting this very important campaign.
Thank you. Philip

All is going very well with the campaign and heading towards our first anniversary of starting the petition.

We also have some news on "kangaroo harvester" He has been traced as using computers in Ryde, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Mount Pleasant, Wedderdun, Sawtell, Parramatta, Brookvale, Springfield and Eastwood. Our investigations show that just a few days ago he was in Peachester QLD.

We also have it on very good authority that despite what he says he is not a kangaroo shooter. Just a trouble maker wanting attention. It is for this reason that he will not be allowed to post further on the site and his comments will be deleted.

LOTS more to follow very soon.

Thank you all for your continued support.

The EU are at present investigating our petition regarding a ban. This isn't a quick fix and takes time so as soon as we have some news we will let you all know.

As for the TV ad! This costs money and no matter how brave these kangaroo shooters say they are, non of them will let us film them committing such cruel acts and the killing of a baby kangaroo.

However, never say never and just wait and see!

Wouldn't it be possible to run a television ad showing people in Europe just how terrifying and miserable the end few minutes of a joeys life really is when Mum is shot? And the barbaric ending for the joey? I have seen footage and it is sickening - this would shock people into awareness and into signing the petition. I think a lot of Europeans have no idea of just how cruel and barbaric these beautiful animals are treated, and that this treatment is sanctioned by our "modern" Government.

Population figures have been questioned in so far as that people believe that there are more kangaroos now than ever before in history! Just to make sure that everyone is very clear on this:-

According to the Australian Governments figures, in 2001 some 57,430,026 kangaroos were recorded as being the population size, yet in just a few short years those figures had dropped in some cases by 61%. In 2008 the "official" figure was recorded as:- 25,896,505! Now here in the office we were wondering why it is that some people wrongly believe that the kangaroo population is HIGHER now than ever before!

Have we missed something?

Comments please.

I am a wildlife carer and operate a shelter in East Gippsland Victoria.
Within the 10 square km area where I live which is surrounded by state forest and coastal conservation park, there are 2 beef farmers, both of these have been issued with culling licenses to kill Kangaroos.
This area has not been in drought, is not short on native grassed and has a low population of Kangaroos.
Now a third permit has been issued by DSE for a 500 acre property which has 19 cattle on it. The permit is allowing the slaughter of 15 Kangaroo's.
This new permit and one of the previous permits have been issued for land which is next door to the properties of wildlife carers and their shelters.
What sort of LUNACY is this?

Dear Kim
As with all things there is a legal process to take into account regarding this ban as 27 countries are involved and the matter is at present being discussed with various groups within the EU. Never fear we will get the ban but we need more people signing our petition to make this become even more effective.
Thank you.

Just to let everyone know regarding Mr. Federer and his guest book. We have spoken to his management and explained that the messages are not coming from our site and indeed who the person is who is causing the problem.
There is no need to keep messaging us about this as this has nothing to do with our site and the person concerned is just out to cause trouble. Both sides ours and Mr. Federers are aware of this spamming and are making investigations. Thank you "FEDFAN" for bringing this to everyones attention.

Hi
Admirable what is being done for our beautiful kangaroos but what is taking the EU so long to put a ban on such cruelty. It doesn't get any more awful than what is already happening so why the delay. Every night all over Australia this beautiful animal is being butchered and the young brutally bashed to death.
When is it going to stop?

Thanks for all the encouraging messages. The campaign gets stronger everyday thanks to support from you all. Without going into detail I have to clarify something about the reason for getting legal and police involved. This is due to personal agravated harrassement against me and not the campaign. The individual concerned has started personal attacks against me on various websites, a little name calling is fine, quite good fun really if the matter here wasn't serious, however, this sort of harrasment and defamation of charcter is a different matter all together. The Police have told me that it is an offence and one that they take very seriously. So you are all updated and hope this answers lots of questions from supporters of the campaign.
THANK YOU.

Further to comments that have been written by "doubious" people about the campaign and impersonating me, the campaign is even stronger than ever. The words written by the sponsor of these sites is playing games! Clearly he or she believes that they are being clever. The campaign is hurting the industry and so certain individuals feel they have to have a go at me. That's fine because it keeps me amused and keeps people talking about it. If it keeps them on their computers then it stops them killing kangaroos so GREAT RESULT ALL ROUND I would say. The campaign is about to take an even bigger leap forward so watch this space.
Unless you see a comment on any website supporting the campaign then assume this is NOT me. If our firends are reading this:- The Police have been informed after a phone call by me to Scotland Yard in UK.

Just to keep everyone updated:- The petitionsite on care2 which was causing many problems for people set up by "kangaroo harvestor" has now been removed from their site. Care2 take great pride in respecting others views but when people abuse the system as had happened in this case, following my complaint, the petition was removed.
Free speech is a vital requirement for all society but when agressive and abusive people try to run rough shod over others they become bully boys. The only way to deal with people is to not be intimidated by them and work within the rules society sets. All petitions stating litigious remarks about me or this campaign will be dealt with as has been done in this case. Playing "dirty tricks" is never a nice game to play. Thank you all for your support.

To wildlife killers i.e of Kangaroos and Joeys. If you have ever heard an 'at foot joeys' distressing call for its mother, and still continue on shooting them, then you have a 'black' heart. How can you live with the fact that you have probably wiped out a whole mob but left behind vulnerable 'at foot joey's' to suffer a slow death. Lets be honest here, If a shooter can pull a joey from the pouch and bludgeon it to death, then that dead mother also has an 'at-foot-joey'. No, if's or but's, a fact! It is the nature of the kangaroos breeding cycle. So in fact, a dead mother equals 3 deaths. And to think what must be happening to the gene pool, but I don't think that is on the mind of shooters, when they are paid per kilo. Shame on you, shame on the industry.

Hi All, seeing how the campaign is going.
I admire you/and others for pursuing this issue. I am a wildlife carer (WA) of orphaned joeys and they are the most amazing animal. So loving, funny and gentle. I live on a property with wild kangaroos and find that all the propaganda about them just doesn't add up. This has led me to believe that those who kill kangaroos have an ingrained mindset, are calous to this beautiful animal, uneducated, unemployable in other occupations and want to make an easy buck. Unfortunately, by nature, kangaroos represent an easy target and the brutality towards them is hidden in the dark. I disbelieve that roo shooters are humane - 100%, it would be impossible. Wildlife should not be considered a commodity but respected!
Thank you for caring about our icon!

Thanks for that. The issue is about killing kangaroos full stop. More importantly the fate of joeys who thanks to the industry making money out of killing the parent, the young die as well. You and others may say you shoot these animals in what you call a "humane" manner, well this is for you to deal with.
We have just had word that a government scientist Stev Mcleod has finally admitted in public that Australia DOES have a problem with the Joey issue. This is a totally unprecidented admission to the fact and proves without doubt everything we say and are fighting for here is true. I have no problems with this individual "ranting" on the way he/she does. I would not like to admit that I know this person for fear of being linked in with him/her.
The truth is now out at long last.

Yes are quite correct with your comments Renne about this person who does need pity. I allowed this one just to show everone who cares about stopping the killing of kangas what we are up against and the general mentality of some of these killers.
To be able to win we first need to understand the mentallity of the killers and with the comments from this person we can clearly see this. Care2 are looking at banning ALL his IP addresses and have requested that if anyone comes across him to identify him to me so that I can pass them on.
Remember however that we are here to fight for the ban and clearly, if the killers were not feeling under threat, we wouldn't get this sort of commentary from people like him.
We who care are far better than him so rise above it and fight on.
Thank you for your support.

Hi Samantha.
Thanks for that. Which sites are they mentioning my name? Please email me on the contact button on the left and I will investigate. The reason for these people being rude about me is because they know that the truth about what goes on in the kangaroo killing industry is being made public. The plight of these young joeys were kept from the public until now and the killers don't like it. They don't like it because if the public know about it they will be against killing kangaroos. Your help and support along with over 6000 others and many EU MEP's is gathering momentum and looks like becoming law to ban all kangaroo product in EU. These killers don't like that. Hope that explains why they don't like me. I am a nice guy really, ask any of my pals! Thank you for this.P.

There are no national figures for 2009 kangaroo population estimates as yet but some state data is available. In NSW the red population has fallen by 14% (approx 402,000), the number of Eastern Greys has fallen by about 18% (approx 546,000) and Western Greys have fallen by 25% (approx 247,000). With a significant drop such as this you would think that the humble Wallaroo deserved a head count as well - instead NSW is using the 2008 wallaroo population estimate to determine the kill quota for 2010. Drought conditions are a major factor in kangaroo mortality but this is something they have evolved with for millions of years, natural selection must determine who survives for this reason... not the kangaroo industry.
